18 Best Minimalist Website Examples 2024

minimalist website design 2023

Whether you’re looking to become a web designer or you’ve been designing websites for years, you need to know how to create responsive websites. A responsive site should adapt to different devices, from tiny smartphones to tablets with 12-inch screens, to give every user a positive experience. You also need to think about the size of the buttons in your designs, as many people operate their smartphones with their thumbs instead of their index fingers. Mobile-friendly design is nothing new, but it’s more important than ever, making it one of the top web design trends of 2023. If a company’s website doesn’t work well on mobile devices, consumers may take their business elsewhere, resulting in lost revenue.

When there are fewer elements to be seen, you have to be a lot more straightforward with your messaging. Having a marvelous design means nothing without the same marvelous content. Try to avoid excessive content and remove unnecessary materials, leaving only those that matter.

Visual Artists

Also, there’s no text or links/CTAs on the slides, nor are the slides clickable. Scott Snyder has randomly scattered portfolio elements on the home page, each linking to the project page, like Lars Tornoe. While the footer is widget rich, it still has a minimalist flow, with the same light color as the base of the website. ETQ is a clean website with a full-screen above-the-fold section that’s split into two sections; 2/3 image and 1/3 solid color background with text and link. We also have a full collection of Webflow websites if you want to view more alternative designs. This includes reviewing all files and confirming one last time that all content is as viewable, accurate and functional as it was on the development server.

Zimik Studio

The Danish style is simple and minimal, exactly what Scope Copenhagen’s website resembles. Beginner Bank keeps things dark (except the last section) and bold, giving the website a more premium feel. Furthermore, the eight-part portfolio section has static and animated thumbnails that link to individual project pages with in-depth presentations. Netil Radio is also a one-page website, with all the content only a few scrolls apart. You may also be interested in investigating these great shoe website designs.

Importance of Navigation Bar

He has been working with the CMS for over a decade, and has experience operating as a freelancer and as part of an agency. He’s dabbled in everything from accessible design to website security. Plus, he has extensive knowledge of online business topics like affiliate marketing. Belgravia is a real estate agency with a website that relies heavily on visuals. Its pages mainly contain photos of properties and small chunks of text with key details. There’s also an image slideshow on the homepage, which gives this minimalist site a more welcoming feel.

Two Create

As a result, one of the biggest web design trends of 2023 is the demand for accessible designs. For example, websites with embedded videos should offer captions to help users with visual impairments understand the content. Accessible websites also make it easy for users to perceive information and navigate their user interfaces. This minimalist CSS gallery loads quickly and gives users a fun experience. The typography makes key information stand out, and ample white space drives the users’ eyes to key page elements.

Make sure you stop by this site if you enjoy user-friendly websites. The Warsaw Museum of Modern Art is an online resource for minimalist and contemporary art. There is a lot of white space on the page, and the customer journey is laid out in a logical fashion, starting just above the fold.

Unlike most portfolio sites, Adam doesn’t aim to get inquiries from potential clients here. Instead, he directs them to his agency’s website, where they can get in touch. Turkish photographer Erdem Akkaya let his photography do all the talking for his minimalist photography website. The landing page is also the gallery for his photography portfolio. This makes his website’s landing page a very comprehensive summary for his entire website without compromising on minimalism. Siddharth Behl’s website is one of its kind, adhering to what minimalism means.

minimalist website design 2023

Before starting to build your minimalist website, look through similar designs and search for inspiration. This will develop your creative muscle and establish the right perception of the concept in your mind. Think about what idea you want to emphasize more and what means you can engage to promote it. Usually, you will choose between typography, visuals, or colors. Keep on refining until you have one or two main elements left.

Visual Artists presents only the most necessary information and elements to its visitors. When you first land on the page, all you see is the agency name in big, bold letters against a plain white background. As you scroll, you’ll see the names of the artists, photographers, and creative directors the agency works for, as well as a short carousel of their work. At any time, the only text on the page is the stripped-down navbar at the top and the artist’s name.

The menu opens in a side window and contains a brief bio, a summary of services, and contact details. This way, users can view all essential information in the same place. London based photographer Ikin Yum’s website is another great example of how minimalist websites maximize visual hierarchy.

But users who do can find them with a simple click of their mouse. To get to it, visitors have to scroll past a short blurb about what the agency does and a grid of their recent projects. If they were impressed by their portfolio and want to work with the agency, they can shoot them an email. Or they can scroll back to the top to browse through the projects again. Maciej Bączkowski’s page is another proof that the text-only hero area works. This minimalist website example features a portfolio on the home page with extra spacing between elements and on-scroll content loading.

This practice, too, lends form and structure to the design, bettering the user experience and enhancing the aesthetic nature of the site. Two-time Creative Circle Digital Agency of the Year Awardee Spring/Summer Spring/Summer used color contrasting in its website to make it very appealing. I love the colors used, which changes even for its vertical menu as one scrolls down the website.

These fun and playful photos put a unique twist on the standard team photos. The top of the image encourages you to scroll down the page and see what’s there. The only issue I have with this design is that the “buy” links for the typefaces are difficult to see and easy to miss. This site looks great and is user-friendly but could benefit from additional calls to action.

I especially love the presentation of photos alternating with powerful copywriting on the company and its projects. Minimalism in website design is all about simplifying your website’s layout to make it more user-friendly. This involves using a minimalist color palette, simplifying your navigation, and emphasizing typography and white space. Its typography and color schemes make it easy to read content on their pages, making this site an excellent example of a minimalist website design. The font weight of the subheads is different from the paragraph’s, while other words on the page are highlighted with the orange color for impact.

By leveraging nostalgia, brands can create an instant connection with customers that is both powerful and meaningful. Epok Design sells graphic posters on their simplistic website. They hook you in with an image rotator that showcases some of their best works. Images speak for the company here, where fewer words and other elements are more acceptable.

This heavily depends upon what kind of program you’re thinking about, and upon the college! For example, some universities offering video game design give their students free Microsoft word but may require students to visit computer labs for different, more expensive programs. If this is an important concern of yours, make sure you talk to those in charge of your major so you know exactly what will be provided to you. There are several colleges for game design on the menu for students interested in gaming but only a few of them really provide students with a meaningful education. Woodbury University offers its 1,500 students more than 20 programs to choose from across three different schools.

BSE DMD graduates go on the work at major studios such as DreamWorks Animation, Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Pixar, and Zynga Games. Graduates of the MSE in CGGT program can be found in major game, film, and video companies such as Disney, DreamWorks Animation, and Electronic Arts. Course highlights include Applied 3D Modeling, Digital Arts & Sciences Convergence, Digital Design and Visualization, Entertainment Technology, Interaction Design, Movement, Media and Machines, Project Methodologies, and Protocols for Multimedia Interfaces. Students will have access to the UF Reality Lab and a Capstone Project is part of the program.

Graduates of the program are prepared to pursue leadership roles across industries. Program alumni are Game Developers, UX Designers, Technical Directors, and Data Analysts. The Computer Science MS and PhD programs at UCI Donald Bren provide access to courses such as Game Design; Model and World Building; Game Engine Lab; Mobile and Ubiquitous Games; and Computer Graphics. Across programs, students are required to select four areas from a list of seven. Areas include Scientific and Visual Computing; Data Structures and Algorithms; System Software; Artificial Intelligence; Networks/Multimedia; Database Systems; and Architecture/Embedded Systems. Students in all RPI GSAS programs have access to everything the RPI Center of Excellence in Digital Game Development has to offer.

Course examples include Player Centric Design; Specialized Programming; Game Production; Prototyping; Experimental Game Design; and Production Studio 1 and 2. PhD students may select up to 15 credit hours from other schools, and they may also choose electives in games and other related areas. All EAE programs at The U are interdisciplinary and immersive with a focus on art, computational research, and social science.

The program offers a “unique, multidisciplinary approach that bridges the gap between theory and practice in game design,” says the school. Worth six credit hours, a Meaningful Games Summer Session is also part of the program. Established in 1865, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) provides Global Scholarships to 100% of its students to complete "life-changing" project work.

30 Best Beauty Tips Hair, Makeup and Nail Tricks You Need to Know

design tips

Like music, visual rhythm in design creates a sense of pattern and time. In graphic design, the principle of proportion refers to the relationship between different elements within a composition, emphasizing their size and scale about each other and the overall design. Note, the focus here is text, but these tips apply to visuals like images and icons too. I used to make the mistake of not aligning my design elements — the icons and the headers weren’t centered or the image and the body text weren’t left-aligned (even when they should have been). Alignment and white space are two of the 13 design principles.

‘Aged brass as a finish is big news in the world of interiors, but you don’t need to buy new fittings. We work with craftsmen and artisans, including Masterfix Solutions, who transform the surface appearance of existing light fittings to an exquisite finish,’ says Roselind Wilson. For instance, dress a bedroom with inexpensive plain fabrics but add a colorful bedspread and some tasseled cushions. They’re so adaptable and will instantly create a strong look,’ says Penny Morrison.

Negative space is crucial for creating balance and harmony; it helps pieces fit together neatly without feeling cramped or cluttered. It also guides the viewer’s eye and emphasizes the focal point of the design. Today, that quote is going to apply not only to you as a designer, but also to your fonts. Sometimes, you don’t want your text to take away from your image, but you still have a big, bold message you need to get across. Sometimes you have to think out of the box and ask yourself how you can be different and bold.

Make notes about which brands you prefer

Design visual brand experiences for your business whether you are a seasoned designer or a total novice. There are short or long term courses available both in person or online. Look at design work from all levels, you can get ideas from anything. Create inspiration mood boards to keep track of what you've found.

Nowadays with the amount of readily available design courses, it’s easy to be a self-taught designer. Further up in the list, we talked about color palettes and color themes. When you choose the colors for your designs, consider what each color represents in an emotional and cultural sense. Visual hierarchy is a skill that comes easy for some people but for others, it needs to be learned. Our blog has a great article to help you understand visual hierarchy better.

Battery life is 5 hours with ANC off, and the charging case provides an additional 16 hours. Color choices are midnight blue, satin black, and canvas white. The desk shelf comes in small, medium, large, and extra-large sizes, and with and without a desk tray. In lieu of an adjustable standing desk, you can use your existing desk and put the Flexispot Standing Desk Converter on top of it.

Whether you’ve been formally educated in design or not, you need to know these fundamentals to create eye-catching designs yourself. Of course, it can still be difficult to customize complicated templates. So make sure you keep all the tips we covered today in mind, and double check your design with the checklist we shared when you’re finished. Besides using individual icons as visual aids, you can combine multiple icons to create “icon stories” that illustrate simple scenes. Simply put, a high-quality photo doesn’t appear blurry or pixelated — it’s sharp and clear both online and in print.

Graphic design tip #5: Use the right amount of colors to create a harmonious design.

'Artwork is an incredibly personal addition to an interior, and as such we recommend selecting a piece that speaks to you,' says Emma Sims-Hilditch. 'We love to create one of a kind pieces which make a room completely individual, from hand-painted murals to embellished cushions and headboards,' says Kit Kemp. At planning stage, choose art to put into your design scheme – it may even be that a piece of art can inspire a room's new look. Try a stencil to make the project easy, which can be used for a ceiling as here, or the walls.

“You can take an old piece and completely repurpose it to match your personality and style,” Piercy says. Homes are great places for creating and storing memories, and you can easily weave this nostalgia into your décor scheme. “I like to incorporate nostalgia in unexpected ways,” Lorenz says. Understanding the meaning of lines and shapes is crucial for creating designs that are in-line with your brand, vision and messaging. One of the most vital elements of web design is your messaging. In this article, you’ll wrap your head around the key strategies for leveraging typography to draw attention to your messaging. Many graphic designers out there, both beginner and professional, are self-taught.

As for that electric, Billie Eilish green seen on the floors and walls at Gucci—it had its moments too. We stumbled across it in several locations, especially among labels focused on sustainable production. In Rowe’s New York City apartment, the “office” simply pushes up against the living room sofa. Stacks of books and flower arrangements make it feel like a chic console table, while a lamp—conveniently—lights both the desk and those curled up on the couch.

Set it with translucent powder — but don't put it directly on your lips. Instead, blot through a tissue so just the right amount of powder accesses your pout. Chattanooga's Read House celebrates 150 years as longest continuously operated hotel in the South

read house hotel chattanooga

A Southern icon, painstakingly restored to reflect its Roaring 20s stateliness. Since its opening in 1872, The Read House has been revered, both as an icon of Jazz-Era opulence and a bastion of southern hospitality.

Amenities

Rutherford B. Hayes, Mexican President Miguel Aleman, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Andrew Jackson all spent nights in the suites. Luminous stars such as Bette Davis, Liberace, and Bob Hope kindled the night's fervor with their brilliance. Even the notorious Al Capone found himself in the hotel's custody, a pause in his tumultuous journey.

Upscale Dining

Great location with an efficient, friendly & competent staff. Room was good size & comfortable, bathroom was large with nice amenities. The history of the property was nice and the staff was amazing. We have more than 70 million property reviews, and they're all from real, verified guests.

A Battle of the Brothers (and Jefferson Davis, too)

In 1875, with the city in the grips of a devastating cholera outbreak, the location was requisitioned once more, serving as a quarantine facility and a hospital. Just two years later, a yellow fever epidemic further compounded the town's woes. Months later in April, the war ignited, and Chattanooga found itself ensnared at the juncture of the opposing forces.

Stay in Room 311 in October – If you dare

A hotel has stood on this downtown Chattanooga site since 1847. The current property opened in 1872 and was rebuilt in 1926 in the Georgian style. It’s long been a center of social activity and has hosted many dignitaries and celebrities, including Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan, Oprah Winfrey, and the infamous Al Capone. It's retained its vibrancy, and it gets especially busy on weekends, when its spectacular Silver Ballroom hosts weddings and other functions. During the week, it fills with business travelers here to attend conferences and dine at the intimate Porter’s Steakhouse.

Felt the food service could have been better and it would have been nice to have breakfast included in our stay.Had lobster bisque one evening and was ill the next two days with gastro issues. Not sure if it was food poisoning but I had all the symptoms. We ESPECIALLY enjoyed the Haunted 311 Room tour given by John who is a talented actor. The Read House boasts nearly 200 years of fascinating history, from surviving The Civil War to hosting Elvis. It has endured floods, epidemics, the Great Depression, and an ever-changing Chattanooga. In 2018, the property completed a $25 million-dollar renovation that restored its original glitz and glamour. Along with his son, Samuel, the Reads set out to build the finest hotel Chattanooga had ever seen.

Inquire at the desk about guided tour availability, and if staff is available to give you a look, you can go in and take pictures. Learn more about Chattanooga’s ghosts with Chattanooga Ghost Tours. The gym is small, but it has all of the standard equipment anyone needs to get a workout in, including two Peloton bikes. The indoor pool is well maintained with towel service and plenty of seating. There was a large bathroom with a long vanity and a lighted magnifying mirror.

Premiere Double Queen

Discover a unique historic getaway at The Read House hotel, where modern-day comfort meets timeless Chattanooga charm. Whether you’re planning an intimate board meeting for 12 people or a stylish dinner banquet for over 300 guests, our flexible venues can be tailored to suit virtually any gathering. Our staff will work with you to customize catering menus for luncheons, coffee breaks, dinners, cocktail hours and more. The Read House Hotel is located at 107 MLK Blvd. in the heart of downtown Chattanooga. If you’re flying into Chattanooga, the hotel is about a 15-minute drive from the airport.

'27 - Annalisa Netherly Arrives

In the modern day and age, the hotel has slipped into quiet elegance. It’s become a place for the wealthy and the elite to mingle with the everyday American or international visitor. I have nothing negative to say, and I recommend this beautiful hotel in the heart of downtown Chattanooga to all types of travelers who want to be close to the action in downtown Chattanooga.

If you want luxury and comfort at a mid-range hotel price in a central location, The Read House is a Chattanooga hotel to put on your idea list for where to stay in Chattanooga. Guest rooms at the Read House all feature room service, premium bedding, beautiful views of the city, coffeemakers, and flat-screen TVs. Complimentary WiFi is available throughout the hotel and in guest rooms, which also include a work desk for busy travelers.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen hotel housekeeping with a knee-length black dress with a ruffled apron. Every little detail adds to the feeling of another time. It makes a terrific home base for a Chattanooga girls trip or romantic couples getaway.

I don’t necessarily believe in ghosts, but I don’t disbelieve anything. The food menu has a variety of sandwiches, salads, and small plates to satisfy your hunger. There’s a full bar and a cocktail menu with creatively named 1920s-inspired cocktails, such as The Death of Annalisa, named for room 311’s famous guest who never checked out. The Read House’s speakeasy-style bar sits just off the lobby and serves lunch and dinner. Like all good speakeasies, the billiard table is tucked in the back behind pocket doors.

In this version of the tale, poor Annalisa Netherly died of a heartbroken heart in Room 311. Room 311 is available for rent on Saturday nights in October and on Halloween night. According to Jim Bambrey, Read House Hotel General Manager, the October reservations sell out within five minutes after being open to the public. Bambrey estimates roughly half the October guests don’t last the night. Off the lobby is a library stocked with books, gaming tables, and places to sit and people-watch. If you walk straight through the lobby, you’ll go into the newer section of the hotel, where the small fitness center and indoor pool are located.

Historic Venues

The Read House is a historic luxury hotel situated in the heart of Chattanooga. This Gatsby-esque 21st century hotel provides all of the modern creature comforts that you expect with a timeless charm that is only found in southern accommodations. The hotel is just minutes from all of the best attractions in Chattanooga, including the Convention Center, AT&T Ballpark, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and the Tennessee Aquarium. Uncomfortable sensations of being watched are the most commonly reported activity in Room 311, in addition to the loud noises that wake guests at all hours of the night. Others, however, don’t believe this gruesome story and instead believe that Annalisa and her gentleman suitor set themselves up at the Read House Hotel. Until it was her suitor who turned to other women and abandoned Annalisa at the hotel.

The Read House Hotel Review: Historic Luxury in the Heart of Chattanooga

The Chattanooga Convention Center and Warehouse Row’s shops and restaurants are both within a six-minute walk, and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is a two-minute drive away. Lookout Mountain and its famed attractions, like the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Parks, are a 15- to 20-minute drive from the hotel. Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport is an 18-minute drive, and the Volkswagen of America Group headquarters is 22 minutes away.

I did not use either, but I did visit both to get a look at the facilities. I had a walk-in closet with storage drawers and two bathrobes. The closet lights automatically opened when I opened the doors. The Read House has 241 guest rooms and suites divided between the Historic Tower and the Manor House. The Manor House is the newer part of the hotel, and while you can tell what’s newer while viewing the building from the exterior, the interior transitions are seamless. While the gleaming marble and gilt accents in the lobby may suggest a strong adults-only theme, this hotel is for everyone, from families to couples or other adult-only groups.

At our historic Chattanooga hotel, we specialize in 1920s splendor while catering to modern tastes. The Read House is a dazzling Jazz-era gem with the trappings of a new hotel. Our 241-room historic getaway boasts soaring lobby ceilings, dramatic chandeliers, checkered floors and gleaming wood-clad walls. Are you visiting Chattanooga and looking for something fun to do? Join Ghost City Tours on a spooky Ghost Tour in downtown Chattanooga! We offer guided, walking tours of Chattanooga's most haunted locations.

The room had a tiled walk-in shower, and no tub, which I’m finding is becoming standard with most hotel rooms these days unless they’re older or at the highest level of luxury. The Manor House rooms are slightly less expensive than the Historic Tower rooms. They’re still very nice and comfortable, with the same level of amenities and services but the Art Deco theming is stronger in the tower. If you go left, you’ll be in the bar and billiards area with adjacent meeting rooms, and if you go right, you’ll hit the elevators to the historic tower rooms and the restaurant and coffee shop areas. The public areas are available for anyone to come to explore. If you like a hotel that packs some history (and maybe a ghost or two), then Read House is for you.

The Read House, Downtown City Center

Rutherford B. Hayes, Mexican President Miguel Aleman, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Andrew Jackson all spent nights in the suites. Luminous stars such as Bette Davis, Liberace, and Bob Hope kindled the night's fervor with their brilliance. Even the notorious Al Capone found himself in the hotel's custody, a pause in his tumultuous journey.

Lock in a great price for The Read House, Downtown City Center - rated 9 by recent guests. ・The hotel's 1920s interior was luxurious.・The staff were very friendly.・The food at the restaurant was delicious. Also, the food and beverage prices were very reasonable. Take a peek for yourself at our darling of a hotel, and delight in the details that make The Read House Chattanooga’s crown jewel.

Many believe the room harbors the spirit of a woman named Annalisa Netherly. There are many legends as to who this woman was and how she became the famous spirit to haunt the hotel, but it is most well known that Ms. Netherly was a prostitute in Chattanooga during 1920s and 1930's. She supposedly resided in room 311 for an extended time. While details are hazy, Ms. Netherly in fact died in that very room. Some legends have it that she was found soaking in the tub with her head almost completely decapitated- more than likely done by a jealous lover or husband. Other legends say that as she took a gentleman suitor to her room and he later directed his time and attention elsewhere to another woman.

Goofball in residence at the intersection of tourism, hospitality, community, and history. By the 1960s, the hotel had changed hands again, and underwent another renovation under the Noe Hotel chain. In 1977, it claimed its rightful real estate on the National Register of Historic Places.

Thomas snagged his enflamed brother by the arm and dragged him from the room. William calmed, only somewhat, but their dispute only highlighted the differences within the state of Tennessee itself. The Civil War was on the brink of exploding when Davis stepped down from his position the US Senate. On his way home to Mississippi, he opted to stop by the Old Crutchfield House to stay the night. The Crutchfields knew exactly what they were doing when they constructed an inn just across the street from the new railway station in the mid-1800s.

In 1862, the hotel served as the headquarters for the local Confederate garrison. That winter, Confederate General Samuel Jones, commander of the Department of East Tennessee, converted the hotel to a military hospital. Chattanooga was occupied by the Union on September 9, 1863, and the 92nd Illinois Infantry Regiment placed its regimental colors atop the hotel to signal their control of the town. Each dwelling is elegantly decorated, boasts lavish custom bathrooms, soaring ceilings, and is located in the historic tower of the hotel. The number of extra beds and cribs allowed depends on the option you choose.

Guests over the years have reported paranormal activity in the room, including unexplained noises, flickering lights, running water, and more. A number of male guests have reported being pinched and shoved, which may suggest the room’s ghost has an axe to grind with men. The hotel offers valet parking for $24 per day, which doesn’t include tipping the valet. There’s no dedicated free self-parking, although there are parking lots and garages all throughout downtown.

Compared to the lovely common spaces in this grand building, the pool area is quite shabby. Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), this property is taking steps to help protect the safety of guests and staff. Other guests have claimed to have experienced similar supernatural activity, as well as seeing ghostly soldiers roaming the halls of the hotel’s fourth floor. We can only assume that these shadowy spirits are none other than the residual energy of the soldiers who may have spent their last moments at the Read House when it operated as a Civil War hospital. Of all the historic hotels in Chattanooga, Tennessee, no other place to stay offers quite the same level of tragedy and hope than the famous Read House Hotel.

House of Prime Rib Menu & Prices

house of prime rib

Sliced thinner than their House of Prime Rib Cut, the English Cut is a delicious and savory offering from their kitchen. The House of Prime Rib, on the other hand, offers one distinctive menu item, delicious and enticing Prime Rib that will leave you satisfied yet craving another visit. Focused on providing only the best grain-fed beef from the Midwest with a selection of wonderful sides. That may be reason enough—beyond the lovingly cared-for prime rib—to stop by the restaurant next time you find yourself in the Bay Area. The tubs of salted meat are then sent into the oven (Betz would only say the temperature was “medium” not wanting to give away all the restaurant’s secrets), where they sit for about two and a half hours.

The Bay Area restaurant details its process, from dry-aging the meat to carving it tableside.

If you want to try it, simply ask for the fixings to be added to your mashed potatoes. This hack on the secret menu at House of Prime Rib is an exceptional option for those wanting a lighter side than the official creamed spinach version. The typical visit to House of Prime Rib is a heavy affair with mashed potatoes, meat and more meat. If you feel like lightening things up a bit or leaving room for even more meat, ask for sautéed spinach instead. Don’t forget to schedule The Arthur J’s Saturday prime rib special into personal calendars. Chef David LeFevre cooks a rib roast in a parsley and rosemary salt crust and serves it with with au jus and the restaurant’s creamy horseradish.

The Best SF Restaurants For A Birthday Dinner

After discovering this, I  would always ask for a slice of the end cut, which is a salty, crispy, well-done piece from the end of the rib. A nice throwback restaurant tucked away on this northern part of Santa Monica just across from the beach, Golden Bull got a revamp from Mark Verge and has a new chef in Greg Daniels to oversee the midcentury bill of fare. The highlight of the menu might be the excellent prime rib, cooked nicely and then doused with jus.

It’s best ordered end-to-end medium rare, the way it should be. That's right, you can add sour cream, green onions, and bacon to your mashed potatoes. We don't actually recommend you do this—sometimes less is more—unless you really love bacon. First, the raw meat goes into a dry-aging room—where infrared lights stop bacteria from growing—for a week (there are easily 300 ribs in the room at a time). From there, the meat is placed in a bath of rock salt, which Betz says keeps all the meat’s delicious juices inside. “You don’t want to see any meat,” he tells Arrington as she pours heaps of salt upon the ribs.

A new soul food joint in the Fillmore is serving the city’s best fried chicken

When you head down to the House of Prime Rib, you’re only after one thing, a nice juicy slice of prime rib. Their dinner menu is remarkably sparse, offering only different slices of prime rib as opposed to a broad selection of offers. The one exception is the fish offering, which contains a portion of fish from the catch of the day, also distinguished by being the only thing on the menu that’s always changing. For many years Lawry's carvery was unique in having only a single entrée on its menu, standing rib roast. It now offers alternatives such as vegetarian specials and lobster tails, but retains its focus on carved-to-order roast beef served tableside from a large metal cart. Discover this list of eight Prime Rib secret menu items to take your House of Prime Rib dining escapade to the next level.

It’s meat and potatoes, plain and simple, but done in a way that’s difficult to top. There’s also a “secret menu” at House of Prime Rib, with things like the well-done rib ends, creamed corn, and mashed potatoes with baked potato fixings. That being said, the House of Prime Rib classics are classics for a reason, and you’re better off sticking with the main menu, especially if it’s your first time. Do you love baked potatoes but desire the cheese, onions, bacon and sour cream that dress a delicious baked potato? With this secret menu hack at House of Prime Rib, you can meet your favorites in the middle and have the best of both worlds.

Triple-layer chocolate, chocolate mousse, and cheesecake in a pool of raspberry sauce. It’s a classic dessert and the perfect way to finish the meal if you find yourself done with your mains and somehow still have room for more. We’d happily trade places with this to swim in the gravy it’s doused in.

Other Popular Menus

We serve only the best beef available, the top 2% of all beef marketed. But there's something about HOPR that you probably didn't know, regardless of how many times you've shimmied into their leather banquettes; HOPR has a super secret hidden menu that only the most routine regulars know. True beef aficionados are well aware of San Francisco’s House of Prime Rib, which has been around since 1949. But not everyone may be familiar with the interesting way the iconic restaurant cooks its succulent hunks of meat.

Sautéed Spinach

Because there are only two ends of the steak, this isn’t always easy to get but if you have the opportunity it’s well worth it. Although House of Prime Rib isn’t your typical hangout for vegetarians, people still enjoy going for the exuberant atmosphere and dining experience. Vegetarians can enjoy the savory flavors of this long-time establishment with a grilled vegetable plate from the House of Prime Rib secret menu. This off-menu option is massive, so vegetarian patrons can still leave with a full belly. The plate comes loaded with portobello mushrooms, eggplant, red peppers and zucchini, topped with fresh mozzarella, a pinch of basil chiffonade, and a drizzle of aged balsamic. Technically, the creamed corn is a House of Prime Rib secret menu item because it’s not officially listed on the menu, but sometimes, your server might ask if you want to include it.

Comprised of ladyfingers buried under delicious mascarpone and whipped cream, Tiramisu’s are rich and delicious and a favorite of coffee lovers. More prime rib, but cut into thinner, more manageable slabs. The thinner pieces are easier to take down and somehow make the prime rib taste meatier. HOPR is the sort of over-the-top calorie splurge you tend to have once a year, and I—like Keanu—especially love this restaurant during the holiday season.

Two drinks for the price of one and it’s not even Happy Hour. One of the hosts mentioned to me recently that Keanu Reeves had visited the week before and sat at the same table where I sat during my last visit—the corner booth in the back, behind the main dining room. The House of Prime Rib serves well-marbled Prime Rib in the English Tradition. Our Prime Rib is carved at your table, to your specifications, from our unique stainless steel carts.

house of prime rib

The Academy struggles every time the creamed spinach comes up for an award - it is technically a supporting actor, but it’s a star in its own right. House of Prime Rib is a frequented spot for foodies and meat lovers alike — even Keanu Reeves visited once. The iconic restaurant goes through roughly 5000 lbs of meat per week, contributing to countless meat sweats and satisfied customers across its 75-year timeline. Probably the perfect coffee flavored dessert, Tiramisu has been a popular addition to many restaurants menus for many years.

This nearly century-old restaurant in Atwater Village is the progenitor to the Lawry's Prime Rib empire, with more humble Scottish-style appointments inside and a more approachable price point. Every dish comes with Yorkshire pudding plus a choice of sides, though the mashed potatoes and creamed spinach always work best. There’s something wonderfully old school about George Petrelli, which serves excellent, bone-in prime rib roast with sides for under $40 a serving.

Though it's technically off-menu, the creamed corn will sometimes be recommended by your server — it's that delicious. Some servers will even let you go half-and-half with your spinach, which we absolutely encourage because in this case, more is more. Succulent and tender, the House of Prime Rib Cut is their standard cut and is the one most favored by their patrons. Like all their beef it is made from 21-day aged beef that provides a rich and delicious meal to the thousands of patrons that come through their door every month. Just as satisfying as the smaller one, but large enough to maybe take a nap on. This is the only cut from the “secret menu” that you can get seared and you should.

This artist opts for a more photo-realistic approach to creating this stunning geisha portrait. The expert use of black and gray shading, as well as sepia tones, perfectly captures the face of the woman without the need for solid line work that might detract from the delicate nature of this piece. The incorporation of the waves using black and gray shading as well as the chrysanthemums keep this piece firmly grounded in this tattoo tradition.

In the context of this design, the koi fish is likely an addition that underlines the tattoo’s Japanese theme. The style of the drawing is similar to traditional Japanese tattoos, although not entirely on the mark. However, there is a distinct style that tattoo enthusiasts generally accept as ‘Japanese tattoos’. Part of the reason behind this restraint was to project an image of elegance, composure, and sophistication. Today’s geishas still follow the same training, although it’s likely to be shorter and less rigorous.

The state flag is always an appropriate choice, and celebrations of Hollywood are featured quite prominently too. You cannot fail with a vibrant logo for San Francisco, Los Angeles or San Diego. We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits.

This beautiful piece looks like it could be pulled straight from Sailor Jerry’s flash wall. The bold line work is exceptional and creates the foundation of this wonderful representation of a classic American traditional geisha. The panels of the face opening set this piece apart from other geisha tattoos and may be a nod to the Japanese sci-fi B-Movie “Robo-Geisha”.

Japanese tattoos are very distinctive and it takes expertise from the artist to get the style exactly right. The geisha girl tattoo has come to represent grace, elegance, beauty, and femininity in contemporary tattooing as well as a link to old school Japanese traditions. The incorporation of layered patterns as well as red ink is typical of trash-polka designs and captures the collage-like feel of this unique style.

Trained in various arts like dance, music, and conversation, geisha were the heartbeat of social gatherings, enchanting audiences with their skill and elegance. The picture while being rather black and white holds some shadows of different colors on the lines of her dress as well as her umbrella. Inspired by the final adversary of the protagonist in the movie Kill Bill Volume 1, the artist creates a scene of a geisha equipped with a sword.

On their own, cherry blossoms in tattoos mean new beginnings, transition, and the fleeting nature of life. In Japanese culture and beyond, they are often a reminder of our mortality and of the importance of living in the moment. Therefore, it’s advisable to avoid representing geishas in body art in disrespectful or offensive ways.

This approach not only enriches your experience as a wearer of this art but also pays homage to the tradition that inspired it. They are artists, embodying centuries of Japanese tradition in music, dance, and hospitality. When you choose a geisha tattoo, you're not just selecting an image; you're carrying a piece of Japanese culture. This understanding is crucial, especially when opting for a prominent geisha sleeve tattoo or a vibrant colored geisha warrior tattoo.

Her katana lies beside her as the many flowers fall from the trees above her, all within a monochromic setting. As the woman cleans her wounds on the side of the peacock accompanies her and provides shade with its feathers. As we’ve already seen, geishas are supposed to entertain guests with conversation as well as dancing and singing.

A remarkable work of art, the tattoo shows off a beautiful scene of a geisha standing in the dark. A face portrait, the style, and design yet very simple holds great detail as a firefly partially illuminates the beautiful woman’s face to unfold the traditional Japanese makeup and large gleaming eyes. Geishas are symbols of sophistication, the arts, and Japanese traditions and customs. Many people who choose geisha tattoo designs do so as an homage to Japanese culture. The artists at Alchemy Tattoo bring ideas to life in a lively and clean environment in Silver Lake, and use inks that are guaranteed to last a lifetime. The studio takes a limited amount of walk-ins, but as with most places, appointments take priority, so customers are encouraged to book in advance, especially if they’re looking for larger size pieces.

Gaining experience in the industry in the tattoo studios of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, his love of ink is a central theme in his work with Next Luxury. The line work and black and gray shading in this piece are excellent, alternately creating the bones of the skeleton and the smooth way the fabric falls over the hand creating different angles and shadows. The application of color is vibrant and fully saturated, contrasting with the dense blacks and gray wash that form the background for the piece. This full-sleeve, or nagasode, is a testament to the artist’s skill and mastery of the style as well as the wearer’s dedication. It is also an interesting compositional choice, the way the artist uses a single bold line to create a frame for the face, only to break out of the boundary with the pins in the geisha’s hair. This piece is a good example of the variety of designs and concepts that can incorporate geishas as well as demonstrating that a broad color scheme isn’t necessary to create a captivating tattoo.

Although Bay Area cuisine is all about the latest "foodie" craze, if you're not all that much into someone messing around with your steak, then tuck a white linen napkin into your collar at the House of Prime Rib. The iconic House of Prime Rib serves potentially the highest quality corn-fed beef in the Bay Area. Their meticulously prepared meat is aged for 21 days, making it especially tender, juicy and flavorful.

After a drink at the bar, Arrington, Rivera, and Betz pull the meat out, let it sit for a couple of hours, and break open the salt with a wooden paddle. There’s very little cooking in the moment after someone orders, so “everything is prep work,” Betz says. Gary Danko is a taste of a fancier, older San Francisco you’re probably not used to. When you’re here, you’ll want to drink something like a martini or a Manhattan, and when you do, it comes with a sidecar.

Does House of Prime Rib Have a Secret Menu?

It adds a nice contrast of sweetness to your plate, and since people come to House of Prime Rib to eat like kings and then fast for a few days, we say go for it. Between the mashed potatoes, au jus, creamed corn, and the prime rib, it's a heavy affair. So why not lighten things up a bit and get your spinach sautéed in lieu of the creamed version? If you prefer a richer steak flavor and texture, ask for your prime rib to be seared on both sides in their kitchen, effectively providing the taste and texture of a ribeye steak. I suggest ordering the King Henry Cut rare—the thickness will prevent it from overcooking, and the Maillard reaction on the bone will take your taste buds to the next level. Down in San Francisco, there’s a unique establishment for the area, a restaurant that’s focused on just one thing. Delivering delicious, savory, juicy slabs of prime rib to its customers. Since its inception, Joe Betz has held his focus on just one thing, absolutely perfection and exquisite attention to detail. In 1985 Joe took over the restaurant and created an institution that is a pinnacle of its community, serving delicious food in an old-style environment that welcomes the community while retaining an air of respectability.

Here you can drink good espresso, juice or chocolate frappe. It’s always a reliable meal at Pasadena’s Alexander’s Steakhouse, where certified Angus prime rib is sold in 12 ounce and 20 ounce portions until it’s gone. Here the meat is sold a la carte with only horseradish and au jus included, so be sure to tack on those classic steakhouse sides. Featured in the movie Swingers and serving Los Feliz for decades, this old-time restaurant along Vermont Avenue is a true throwback untouched by the passage of time.

This all-night and all-day restaurant serves a mean prime rib in 14 ounce and eight ounce sizes. The prime-grade beef is a nice alternative to the grilled steaks most people order here. The only difference between prime rib and a ribeye steak is the way the meat is cut and cooked. The prime rib is traditionally a larger cut, which is then roasted whole and sliced to order.

Diners enjoy well-marbled prime rib, carved tableside to their exact specifications, along with sides like fluffy mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. The dessert cart offers a decadent array of sinful sweets, and assorted wines promise the perfect pairing. You know what you’re here to eat, but when you open the menu, it’s still a bit shocking how few choices you have. There are six entrees to pick from, five of which are different cuts of prime rib and a sixth option of fish, and sides like Yorkshire pudding, baked potatoes, and creamed spinach. You choose how much prime rib you want, how you’d like it cooked, and how thick you want it cut. The scene is gloriously fun to watch, but the food itself is also a big reason why every room in this palace is always packed.
